Strengths

  • Keeps only a random visitor ID and the first referrer in the browser’s session storage, which is cleared when the tab closes, and sets no cookies.
  • Every paid plan includes periodic email reports, data export and API access, and the Stats API returns breakdowns such as pages, landing pages, campaigns, countries, cities and events.
  • Custom events are sent from the page with a JavaScript call, and single-page apps are tracked when the URL changes through the browser history.
  • The Websites API can add, update and delete sites and set email reports and exclusions for IP addresses or URL query parameters for each one.

Watch-outs

  • Reports show visitors and pageviews without bounce rate, visit duration or funnels, and the Stats API lists no such metrics either.
  • Once the monthly pageview limit is reached, traffic is not recorded until you upgrade or the next billing period starts, although the vendor emails a warning first.
  • The pricing page lists only paid plans, while the homepage offers a free account without saying what it includes.
  • The about page, last updated in June 2023, places the server at OVH in France, but the app and its data collection endpoint now respond from Heroku, and no region is named.
  • Do Not Track is respected only when the data-dnt attribute on the snippet is set to true; the snippet on the vendor’s own site sets it to false.

Who it suits

Microanalytics is a hosted service for tracking traffic, referrers, goals and conversions without cookies, and its homepage names founders, marketers and agencies as the audience. Its terms are governed by Spanish law, and the vendor says data is hosted in the EU.

Paid plans are sized by monthly pageviews and come with a site limit, from 10 sites on Starter to 100 on Pro, and each includes email reports, data export and API access. The homepage also offers a free account without a credit card.

The reports count visitors and pageviews but show no bounce rate or visit duration, so the service fits sites that watch sources, campaigns and goals more than engagement. For measurement without cookies in general, see what “cookieless” means here.

Setup

Create an account, add your website and paste the single line of tracking code from the dashboard into the header of every page. The snippet carries the collection host and a Do Not Track switch as attributes, and the script sends the full page address with each hit.

Goals are built on events that you send with the vendor’s JavaScript call. A vendor article lists integrations with WordPress, Squarespace, Ghost, Wix, Framer, Webflow and Weebly, and no Microanalytics plugin appears in the WordPress plugin directory.

The API uses a key from your account, sent as a bearer token. The service is hosted only.

Questions and answers

Does Microanalytics use cookies?

No. The tracking script sets no cookies and uses no local storage; it keeps a random visitor ID and the first referrer in session storage until the tab is closed. The vendor says working without cookies or fingerprinting avoids the usual consent-banner setup, and adds that you should still decide for your own legal situation.

What happens when I reach the pageview limit?

Tracking stops. The pricing FAQ says the vendor emails you before the monthly limit is reached, and once it is reached, traffic is not tracked until you upgrade or the limit resets in the next billing period.

Is there a free Microanalytics plan?

Yes, according to the homepage, which offers a free account without a credit card. The pricing page lists only paid plans and publishes no free allowance; a vendor article from March 2024 described the free plan as one website and 1,000 pageviews a month.

Where is Microanalytics data stored?

In the EU, according to the vendor. The homepage says the service is hosted in the EU, and the about page, last updated in June 2023, names an OVH data center in France. The app currently responds from Heroku, and the vendor does not say which region it uses.
