Strengths

Counts unique visitors through the browser’s HTTP cache instead of cookies or identifiers: a Last-Modified date starts at midnight and moves one second forward with each visit.
IP addresses are held in memory in Ireland only long enough to look up the country and check your exclusions, and are never written to disk, according to the vendor.
Public dashboards, a privacy statement page for each domain, data export to Excel or CSV and MCP access for AI assistants are included on every plan, Free included.
Cabin keeps recording traffic above the allowance: on Free, the dashboard shows data up to the day you passed the limit, and the rest appears on the 1st or after an upgrade.
On Scale, visits from AI assistants such as ChatGPT, Claude and Perplexity are shown in a separate section and are left out of pageviews and billing.

Watch-outs

The dashboard reaches back 30 days on Free and 12 months on Plus, and the documentation advises exporting anything you want to keep for longer.
Custom events, the REST API, email reports and custom script domains start with Plus, while branded dashboards and reports to several recipients require Scale.
Location stops at the country, bounce rate is not broken down by page, and the dashboard has no live visitor count.
There is no official WordPress plugin: the documentation installs the script with the Insert Headers and Footers plugin, or with Code Snippets on WooCommerce.
The REST API is read-only, returns data aggregated by day and asks you to stay at about 20 requests a minute.

Who it suits

Cabin is a hosted service run by Nic Mulvaney LTD in the UK, and its analytics data is stored and processed in AWS’s Ireland region. A relaunch on 2 July 2026 introduced three plans: Free for one domain and 30 days of history, Plus for up to 10 domains and 12 months, and Scale for unlimited domains and unlimited history.

The Free plan covers a personal site or a portfolio that needs a public dashboard and data export. Custom events, energy and carbon estimates for each page and the REST API start with Plus. Scale is aimed at agencies and studios, with branded client dashboards and weekly reports to several recipients.

Cabin cannot be self-hosted, and only its tracking script is published on GitHub, under the MIT license.

Setup

Add the domain on the Domains page of your Cabin account, then place the script tag before the closing body tag. The tag is the same for every site and has no settings. The documentation has step-by-step guides for Shopify, Squarespace, Wix, Webflow, Ghost, Next.js, Nuxt and other platforms, and for Google Tag Manager, which it does not recommend for privacy reasons.

Events are added with a data-cabin-event attribute or a cabin.event call. On Plus and Scale, a CNAME record for a subdomain of your site lets Cabin serve the script from your own domain with a free certificate. Cabin is hosted only, so there is nothing to run on your server.

Questions and answers

Does Cabin use cookies?

No. According to the documentation, the script sets no cookies and stores no identifiers, and unique visitors are counted through the browser’s HTTP cache. The only cookie is the session cookie of the Cabin dashboard itself, which your visitors never receive. The vendor says no consent banner is needed; whether that holds for your site depends on the rules that apply to you.

Is there a free Cabin plan?

Yes. The Free plan covers one domain and 10,000 pageviews a month, keeps 30 days of data and includes public dashboards, data export and MCP access. The pricing page says it needs no credit card. Plus and Scale are billed monthly or yearly, and yearly billing gives two months free.

What happens when I go over the pageview allowance?

Tracking continues. On the Free plan, the dashboard shows data up to the day you passed the allowance until the 1st of the next month or until you upgrade. Domains above your plan’s limit also keep collecting, but their dashboards stay closed until you upgrade, according to the documentation.

Where does Cabin store data?

In the EU. Account and analytics data are stored and processed in AWS’s Ireland region. Collection endpoints in Frankfurt, Mumbai and Singapore only pass requests on to Ireland without writing to disk, and the support inbox runs on Help Scout in the United States, according to the privacy policy.
