How pricing works

Heap counts sessions, and the plan you need follows the number of sessions a month. Only the free plan carries a published figure.

Four plans are listed:

• Free covers the session volume shown above with the core charts, enrichment sources, guides integrations, single sign-on and six months of data history.
• Growth adds the Sense assistant, unlimited users and reports, chart customization, CSV exports, twelve months of history and email support. The vendor asks you to sign up and install the snippet to receive an estimate, so the figure follows your own measured volume.
• Pro adds account analytics, the engagement matrix, report alerts and standard support, and opens the experience analytics add-on. The vendor calls its price custom session pricing.
• Premier adds warehouse integration, behavioral targeting, advanced user permissions, region specific storage, unlimited projects and a dedicated customer success manager, again on custom session pricing.

Several capabilities are add-ons rather than plan features. Session replay, error analysis and heatmaps arrive together as experience analytics for the two upper plans. Warehouse sync and the activation integrations are an add-on on Pro and included with Premier. Data history can be extended to three years. Projects, which are the workspaces where one product or site is collected and analyzed, are capped at one on the lower plans, rise on Pro with the option to buy more, and are unlimited on Premier.

Going over the plan is handled through the dashboard rather than the invoice. The vendor states that data is neither dropped nor throttled: collection carries on, an email asks you to move to the appropriate tier, and you need to do that before you can view your data again. That makes the session estimate the number to get right before signing, since underestimating locks the reports rather than adding a charge.

Questions and answers

What counts as a session?

Any period of activity from a single user, however many pages or events it holds. Thirty minutes without a pageview closes a web session; five minutes of inactivity closes a mobile one. Someone who returns later the same day produces a second session, so a site with short repeat visits counts more sessions than one with long ones.

What separates the plans besides features?

History and projects. Data history runs six months on the free plan and twelve months on Growth, while the two upper plans begin at a year and sell further years as an add-on. The number of projects is capped on every plan except the largest, which matters when several products or sites have to be kept apart. What the product measures is on the Heap card.
